At Firebird Theatre, we make work by and for people with Learning Disabilities.
Through experimenting with light and sound in our work-in-progress of The Tempest (July 2025), we found that an immersive, sensory approach to storytelling suited what we wanted to do and our audiences with both LDs and Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities liked it too.
We want to develop our show into an immersive sensory experience for our community.
We’ve been awarded Immersive Arts funding to develop sensory, immersive technology so audiences can feel part of the world of the show.
We’ll be working with the fantastic Artist Associates at Open Storytellers and Creative Technology experts to experiment with ways of making technology work for us and our storytelling.
We’ll keep sharing updates!
Immersive Arts Words
There are lots of words (and jargon) in the immersive arts world so we’ve made an Easy Read booklet to share these words and what they mean.

We’re so grateful for this funding but we still have a way to go to reach our target to fund the production.
We’re doing a Sponsored Walk to raise money!
If you’d like to support us please donate to our Sponsored Walk.
